Families Are Now Finding Out That They Need More Than Maternity Health Insurance When They Are Getting Ready To Have A Baby
You would think that with all of the babies born in the United States that there would be maternity health insurance all over that would cover the cost right? The cost for having a baby is ballooning and millions of women find themselves paying out of pocket expenses to have a baby nowadays. With the price of having a baby topping a whopping $7,000 this could pile up on you.
Even if you were to have maternity health insurance benefits through your employer you may still not have the coverage that you had expected when you go out on maternity leave. The only part that will probably be covered totally is the disability benefit portion. This is going to be difficult because chances are that you are going to have to do a search to find another insurance that will cover the rest of it.
If you were to take into consideration the fact that there may be complications during the birthing process, the costs would rise way above what was expected. Not to mention if the baby were premature; you may end up paying almost double that amount. Just the machines alone to make help the baby survive are outrageous to operate but your baby’s life is important.
Not every insurance policy covers maternity costs; sometimes some of it is covered, whereas other policies do not cover it at all. Even if it is covered, chances are that not the whole thing is going to be covered; you will have to get extra coverage. For all of the options you are going to have, do an extensive search to find what is going to be the best program for your growing family.
Right now, there are only 18 states that have enacted laws where pregnant women have to be covered during and after their pregnancy for baby care. You would have to perform a search to find out if your state is one of these more progressive ones. You want to secure your insurance before you have a child but that is not always possible when it comes to pregnancy. Planning this far in advance may help you, plus you will probably have to save for it too so that you can pay what is not covered.
You may be able to find a supplemental insurance that will cover things that your regular short term disability insurance will not cover; sometimes to get by you need more than one insurance. You may also qualify for government supplements that would also cover the delivery of your baby. I know things should not be this complicated but the fact remains that insurance companies are scaling back their coverage for everything these days to save money.
