Last week, as I was using Quicken 2008, I get an announcement from Quicken that by April 2011, if I haven’t upgraded to Quicken 2011, it’ll stop doing online updates. That sounded serious, so I bought Quicken 2011 and installed it. So this proves that Q2011 makes some permanent notations in the Registry (or somewhere) and then certain financial institutions (which, I assume, didn’t pay Quicken to upgrade to the latest 2011 server software) are tagged to no longer download „acceptable“ transactions. I’ve been using Quicken since the early 1990s, and until now all updates always worked smoothly.

I don’t know why there were negative reviews here. This is also good for small business to see if you’re making a profit.

My confidence in that regard is thin. The interface is daunting, to put it mildly.

As advertised, it does connect reasonably well to my bank account, credit card accounts, and investment accounts. However, I have two complaints. From a user interface prospective, this is a big step backward. On the positive side, this version of Quicken is the fastest yet. The address was in Microsoft Money before I imported, and in fact the address was imported into Quicken. Oh, but wait a minute, that address is associated with this payee, but this isn’t an online payee. Unfortunately, if you want to download transactions from bank account, credit cards, etc, you have no option but to upgrade every three years. I’ve been using Quicken for more than 10 years, and my 2007 version suddenly stopped working properly a couple weeks ago.

Only one of the linked accounts can be downloaded, whereas the other one needs to be manually downloaded via Bank of America’s website. In other words, forget about the one click download. If you are using Excel (or CSV or any other spreadsheet tool) then you might learn Quicken decided to drop support for importing from spreadsheets back in 2005. But you can pay 100 USD+ for Quicken and not be able to import text data.

If you are a casual user, but one who controls almost their entire budget on this type of software, I would recommend Quicken 2011 as a useful and more than adequate replacement for Money. This seems to be a very minor upgrade from quicken 2008.

Other than that, there is no customization at all (and by adding Arial text with a little bold to your invoice doesn’t count). I am more than mad though since I have absolutely no way to return it since I downloaded from Amazon digital store. And to that the fact that I was able to download the software and begin using it right away and you have a sure winner here! I use for home finances and a very small business and it’s more than adequate. I have been very pleased with this product! It is exactly what I was expecting in Financial Management software, and has been easy to learn how to use. Not perfect, though. If you have any long memos on transactions, they will be truncated; you’re going to lose part of them.
