The Transformational Millenium Tower Boston
The shape of a skyline in any city is defined by the design of its sky scrappers. A new addition in the name of Millenium Tower Boston is coming up in Massachusetts. It will stand on the site where Filenes Flagship store stood. The project has faced numerous handles since the idea was conceptualized but it has finally taken off. The complete complex is expected to change the appearance and activity in the area.
The tower seeks to offer a combination of office space, residential condos and commercial space for business. The budget currently stands at 700 million dollars. Partners currently running the project are Gale international and Vornado. They will give a new look to the site that was previously occupied by Filenes.
There is variety in the nature of tenants who will be occupying different sections. The design has provided for a hotel with a capacity of 280 rooms. Space has also been reserved for a restaurant that can hold 125 seated guests. Office space has an allocation of 44,100 square meters or 475,000 square feet. This dynamism is exciting as a working and living complex.
The space reserved for commercial purposes is 300,000 square feet or 28,000 meters. Residential condos are a combination of 2 and 3 bedroom spaces. There is a park adjacent to the building that will also be used by tenants within the complex.
The initial phase of construction was abandoned after investors ran out of money. Since the project had began, it left massive and gaping holes where the former store stood. Filenes was constructed in the 1950-70s with a different design. The delays caused administrators at Boston to suspend the permit for construction.
The project got a new lease of life with the entry of Millenium partners in 2012. The new design offered 1.2 million square feet as available space. It is a professional combination of office, residential and commercial space. This has introduced a new dimension to the street.
The building attracted the first client named Arnold Worldwide who signed up for space of April 13, 2013. This gave the cue for construction to begin. The ground breaking ceremony was held on September 17th 2013. In attendance was Thomas Menino, the former mayor of the area.
26th April 2014 saw the area break the city record for the largest concrete pour. Six hundred cubic meters of concrete were poured by six hundred lorries. This marked the initial steps in constructing the slab to hold the tower. Roche Brothers groceries have also signed up for space.
The complex is expected to join two others towers offering residential areas in upper floors. The residential condos are available in units of one, two and three bedrooms. The address for the building is 426 Washington Street even though the lobby is constructed facing Franklin Street.
Completion of this complex is waited because of the breath of new life it will inject in the area. The area is known for its gated lifestyle but is bound to experience something new. The architects behind the design are also credited for their work on Flatiron Building in the heart of Manhattan and Union Station that is in D. C.
