Born in the modest Victorian village of Creswick on the 22nd February 1879, Norman Alfred William Lindsay was destined to turn into an Australian icon and one of the countries most famed and controversial artists. His parents were Jane Elizabeth Lindsay and Robert Charles William Alexander Lindsay. Norman had a total of 10 brothers and sisters among them four sisters and five brothers which included Percy and Lionel, also successful painters in their own right. His status as a painter has stood the trial of time and well into the 21st Century his artworks are still keenly sought after by both Australian and International enthusiasts alike. Norman acquired a number of talents combined with a mind that would certainly provoke talk and judgement about some of his political opinions and how he pictured them in his artwork. Lindsay was a gentleman with numerous artist talents in addition to being highly successful as an oil painter, water-colourist, author, pencil drawer, cartoonist and sculptor.
